Gallery walls are so hot right now but they also require a lot of art to make them work, this can be hard on the piggy bank. I have compiled some tips to help stretch your dollars and still create amazing walls of art. I created a whole class all about hanging art in your home on Skillshare and here is one of the video lessons all about how buy art on a budget! (To take the whole class on Skillshare click this special link).

Here are some more tips:

1. Mix It Up!

Not only does incorporating both original and prints in a gallery wall add great variety but the mix can help the bank account too. I believe buying original art is so important and when being mindful of your budget it is great to pick two or three artworks that you pay for the original work. Then build all the other pieces around these.

2. Momentos

Incorporate you! Over the years I am sure you have collected some wonderful memories and things… can they be framed? Items like favourite bands’ concert tickets, a photo from your wedding, a childhood photos or black and white snap of a grandparent. Mixing these momentos into your art wall can add a personal touch and help keep the cost of artwork down.

3. Right on the wall.

Murals can help add a designer touch to your wall and they take up space which means less framed art to fill it! Check out my resource on “How To Commission a Mural” to help guide the process.

3. Go vintage.

Don’t be afraid to head to your local antique or thrift shop. These are great spots to find unique frames and interesting artwork too. Below is a wall that has four piece from the thrift shop and mixed with the original artwork, it truly looks amazing.

I have bought art slowly over the years and mixed these purchased with prints, thrift finds and framed momentos. Gallery walls take time to come together but that is why we call our art an “art collection.” The artwork on your walls become the story of you and your home and how beautiful is that! Enjoy the process and support artists when you can and with whatever your budget allows for.
